AMMAN — Jordan on Wednesday said that it would "immediately" recall its ambassador to Tel Aviv in protest against the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip.

A Foreign Ministry statement said that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi also instructed that the Israelis be notified not to return their ambassador to Amman, who has previulsy left the Kingdom.

The ministry said that the decision was made to express Jordan's rejection and condemnation of the raging Israeli war against Gaza, which is killing innocent people and is causing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.

It also warned against the expansion of war which would threaten the security of the region and international peace and security.

In the statement, Safadi linked the return of ambassadors to Israel halting its war on Gaza and its measures that deprive Palestinians of their rights to food, water, medicines, and peaceful and stable living on their national soil.

He also stressed that Jordan will continue to work to halt the war against Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, protect civilians and protect the region from the consequences and catastrophic impact of the war on the future of the region.

Safadi stressed that the region has the right to a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which results in the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the pre-1967 lines.
